Long time, no speak. Sorry!

I’d like to start out by saying sorry for just dropping off the radar for a while. I’ve had a bit of a shift around in my life. Basically, I got ask to help manage a friend of mine (singer), and I’ve taken on a couple of other bands since, and now I’m quite obsessed by it. What started out as something that could balance the poker, and I really needed something else to stimulate me away from the tables, has taken over. I have to admit that I love the music business, and I love the guys I’m working with, but this last week I’ve made a conscious effort to bring more poker into my life again!

I’m a bit tired now, but I decided to make the effort tonight and tell you about one hand that I played this evening, but first some background. I’ve decided to change sites, so I’m in the process of taking money out of Eurobet, and contemplating either sticking it back in Full Tilt Poker, or having a shot at Carbon. The rakeback is really good, and I hear the games are soft. I might give that a shot. So, while that’s happening I still have a couple of hundred dollars on FTP from before to make use of, and decided to play with that until my main bankroll is in place at Carbon or wherever. Obviously, $200 isn’t enough to play 50nl, so I’ve been playing 25nl. In fact it’s not really enough for that, but I feel I have a strong edge over these guys and took the risk.

The reason I’m leaving Eurobet is because of the rakeback. I should be getting a lot more than I do, but I’ve calculated that I’m only getting around 19%, which is less than what I had at FTP! It seems that nobody really knows how they calculate it, but the 2+2 forums have been discussing that it is weighted towards the losing players. Meaning if you lose money and play bad, you get more rakeback to tempt you to keep playing with Eurobet. Unfortunately, that means winning players don’t get the same reward. With Carbon offering 35%, and I’ve been informed they have a straight up spread, I think I’ll give it a shot. It all counts!

The hand I want to mention is when I had KK under-the-gun, and I open-raise to $0.75. It folds around to the small blind who flats, and the big blind folds. The flop is 33T rainbow, and I c-bet, the SB calls. Now, I only had 20 hands on the guy so no reads at all. He had played 50VPIP/33/PFR/2.0 Aggr.Fact., but that means nothing with so few hands. The turn is the 4h (2 hearts on table now), and I carry on betting ($3 into $4.25), and get called. I was now concerned that he had flopped a full house, but I wasn’t convinced, and I really doubted he had a 3, but what I seriously thought he had was a hand like AT or a pocket pair lower than mine as he didn’t re-raise me pre flop. It wasn’t until the river that it got interesting, when he check raised me all-in when the 9c came. Wow, did he have me all the way, or was this just his way of floating and trying to steal on the river?!?!? Well, it was a tough one, but my instinct was to call. If he had TT then well played sir. So, I call, only to see pocket 6′s!!! It was a nice try, but…

A nice little 31.41bb/100 winning session!

Also, I should mention that my poker did not die off totally when I was quite. I have been having coaching, in the form of a group session once a week for the last 6 weeks, with one of Leggo’s video coaches, Marvin Steele. Man he’s good. If you ever get the chance you have to have some coaching from him. Since I’ve had this coaching I’ve turned the heat up on my game, and it seems to be working. Obviously you’ll see for yourself soon enough (so long as I keep writing regularly!!!).

So, until next time!

Straight flush

Just finished a pretty nice session that saw me up 2 buy-ins. After my last post I feel a little embarrassed to tell you that today I was being a bit more aggressive. My overall stats are 34.5vpip/24.2pfr/0.97agg factor. My 3-bet was only 3.3, but I did more 4-betting versus the regs!

From this session I have 3 hands that I want to tell you about. The first hand was versus a reg who’d been 3-betting me loads, but also showed he could adapt to my changes. I was in the small blind to his big blind, and I had Kd9d. I knew if I raised he would 3-bet, and with it being a nice hand I didn’t want to have to fold. So, its folded around to me and I limp expecting a raise, but he checks. The flop was a dream – 4d7dAd – yes I flop the NUTS. Now, he’s running at 32vpip/32pfr/15aggr factor!!! and I knew he would bet, and I check. He does indeed bet $0.75 into $1. Not a big pot, but if I raise he will get suspicious and will proabaly get out of the hand. So, I think for a while and call. The turn was the 3c. Again, I check, and he pots it for $2.50. Now, I’m pretty certain he might now call a raise as it could look like I’m bluffing a non-diamond, but I want to make it something he will easily call with an ace or flush draw, so I min-raise to $5. To my surprise he raised me to $9 (BINGO!!!). I wait a while and then make it $21, and then he insta shoves for $48.76 with Qd6d. What a cooler!

The next hand was against a guy who was running 20vpip/11pfr/0.6aggr factor, with a starting stack of $52.32. The fish at the table had posted early, and checked, then the guy I played was on the button and raised to $2. I had 6s6c in the small blind, and I flat hoping for the fish to join, but he folded. The flop was 6d2sJd. I lead ($3.75 into $5) on this flop because I don’t want to give him a free card, and I felt it also might look like I was trying to steal the pot, and finally, I wanted to build a BIG pot. I really hoped he had a hand like AJ or a monster pocket pair (if I’m lucky), and if he’s got JJ, then its just a cooler and I move on to the next hand. He flats, which is nice, but slightly worrying (JJ!). The turn was 2c, and I bet $9 into $12.50. I’m hoping he’s got a J and sees a potential split-pot, and would I really be betting so hard if I had it, or would I let him think I’m worried!?! He flats. Hmmmm…. interesting. The river was a very interesting 2d. If he’s got JJ, then he’s got me anyway, but if he has AJ/KJ he’s going to think he’s good to go, and I really don’t think he had a 2 as he’s only opening 18% on the button. I bet $23 into $30.50, and he shoved. I felt slightly uncomfortable now, but I wasn’t folding. If I’m beat, I’m beat, but he could easily be feeling safe with a J, and I call to see QQ. It made sense as I imagine he put me on a J!

The final hand was a beauty! The table had died off a coulple of hands earlier, and I was heads-up against a solid reg. I was hoping by carrying on that it might tempt some fish to join in, and then this hand came along.

I was the big blind, and he’d been raising a lot, especially being heads-up. His stats were 20vpip/16pfr/2.5aggr factor, with a 3-bet of 6.9. Obviously he stepped up the action once we were heads-up. I had KhJd, and I call his raise to $1.50. The flop came ThQh2c, giving me an open-ended straight draw, and backdoor flush. I know this could have hit him, and I don’t want to get raised off my hand if I raise his c-bet, so I just call the $2.25. The turn was the Jh. Now, I had an open ended straight flush draw to go with my straight draw, and I have a pair. I’m pretty sure I’m not getting away from this now! I call his $5.75 into $7.50 hoping the river is going to be kind, as the way he was betting now made me feel as if he was not going to let go to a raise. The river was VERY kind, giving me the 9h for the straight flush, and he leads for $14.25 into $19, leaving him $32.42 behind. He’s fairly committed now, and I just hope he has a heart and/or he’s willing to call a shove. Even if he folds its a nice pot. So, I shove and he thought for a while, then called. Unfortunately, with Eurobet it doesn’t show the mucked cards, so I will never know what he called with, but I reckon he might have flopped 2 pair or AQ with the Ah, but he would have snapped it off quicker with the Ah. I don’t mind, I took $101.50 down, thank you very much. Normally, with hands like that I end up making the minimum, so a full stack is very nice.

Right, time for bed. See you soon!

September’s results

I thought it might be quite interesting to do a little summary of September, and share with you my thoughts on why it went the way it did.

A busy weekend

Not played any poker over the weekend as I’ve been too busy. Saturday we went off for a walk over at Attenborough Nature Reserve, and today there was a bunch happening in the Market Square in Nottingham Food & Drink Festival. It was a good event, and I did sample some very nice smoothies, and a huge cupcake!!! Yum Yum

A nice session for pocket 10′s!

Just finished another nice session at the tables. Up 2 buy-ins, with a 66bb/100 winrate. Made a pretty sweet move when the aggressor was betting hard (29vpip/21pfr/2.9aggr.fac. with a small blind 3-bet of 25% and a high flop and turn aggression 45 & 56%), and on the turn he made it $20 into $26.50 on 8c8d5d5c. I was fairly sure he was bluffing so I shove my pocket 10′s. He called with AsQh, and he missed the river! $122.62 over to me.

Saturday night and poker

Just had a really good night out at a friends. We went around for dinner and a catch-up, and me being the kind and generous person drove (lol, I drank last time!!!). So, no drinking! It was really nice to get out especially as it was a Saturday night, and that’s what Saturday nights are for. What driving was really good for was to come back ready to hunt the drunk donks out. Yes, I was ready and raring to hit the tables.
